Ingredients
1 egg yolk
3 tablespoons white sugar
½ teaspoon salt
30G cornstarch
¼ teaspoon vanilla essence
300ml milk
Method
- put 1 egg yolk in a pan
- add 3 tablespoons sugar and ½ teaspoon salt
- mix well to combine well
- add 30g cornstarch, vanilla essence, 300ml milk and stir to dissolve everything, ensure it is smooth and there are no
- lumps of cornstarch
- put on very low heat for about a minute.
- when the milk is warm add a little cheese (10g) cheddar…optional though
- stir till melted and mixture looks like oatmeal, continue stirring till bubbles are seen and turn off heat.
- cool it a bit, put in a container and flatten it
- knock it down to eliminate the air bubbles
- cool in the fridge for 2 hours
- take it out onto the cutting board and cut into desired shapes and sizes
- melt butter in a pan and fry the custard on medium heat, 3 minutes on each side or till golden brown
- cool and serve with berries
